Show LIS OUTLINED RJOD State Senator Reviews Utah Legislation at Ladies' Literary Club. State Senator J. W. McKlnney of Salt Lake yesterday reviewed the accomplishments accomplish-ments of the special session of the Thirteenth Thir-teenth legislature before the Ladies' Literary Lit-erary club. Mr. McKlnney placed special emphasis upon the act of the legislature in passing without a dissenting vote the resolution ratifying the amendment to the constitution granting woman suffrage. suf-frage. The resolution was introduced by Senator Klizabeth Hayward. In speaking speak-ing of this resolution, Mr. McKlnney said: "In acting upon the suffrage amendment amend-ment so promptly, Utah again has placed herself in the front rank on this great issue. I believe this to be one of the most important reforms of all time." .Senator McKinney referred to the other legislation passed, such as the appropriation appropria-tion of $75,000 for the state mental hospital, hos-pital, the enactment of the "blue sky" law, the appropriation and provision for a home for fallen women. He detailed the principal subjects of legislation which the special session acted upon. Those new laws which he mentioned particularly were the picketing law, the automobile thievery laws, amendments to the inheritance tax laws, amendment to the law with reference to the support of widowed mothers, which gave counties of more than 100,000 population opportunity oppor-tunity to increase their provisions for these women; the power given the state board of land commissioners to enlarge the capitol grounds, the addition of provisions pro-visions to the state game and fish laws, legislative provision for the selling of the Piute project lands and other measures. |
