Show ! ROBBERY I HEARING BEGUN j Grant Ball's Actions Sub- sequent to Holdup Told by Witness. Preliminary hearing was begun yesterday yester-day bofore City Judge Henry C. Lund of Grant and Ellsworth Ball, charged with robbery for the alleged holdup of tlio Wand&mere street car at the end of the line on the night of Sunday, October 19. Five witnesses were examined and further fur-ther hearing was continued to 10 o'clock Monday morning. The first witnesses were Burt G. Walters Wal-ters motorman, and George H. Bonfleld, conductor. They told of the manner in which the robbery was committed that the trolley was pulled off the wire and the motorman and conductor covered with a pistol by one of the holdups, while the other made off with tho fare .box. The bandit put the trolley back on tho wire after getting off the car and told the motorman and conductor to "get out of heGrant Ball, previously in custody at the county jail, admitted his part in the holdup hold-up on the Tuesday following to Ray u. He said he asked Ball about the disappearance of a pistol from the sheriffs automobile and that Ball assured as-sured him that he (Dotty, would not be suspected of taking it. Dotty said that in admitting the robbing of the street car Ball exhibited street car tickets and Bald he held up a car Sunday night G T Wakefield, another trusty, told of Bali's expressed desire to obtain a gun prioi to the holdup. Deputy bheriff W. E. Schoppe testified that a pistol had been taken from the sheriff's car. |
