Show Concerning the King of Siam. By Universal Service. WASHINGTON, May 26. In- the midst of his speech against the league of nations na-tions in the senate today, Senator Reed of Missouri had begun a rather severe criticism of the people of Siam, when Senator Phelan of California arose and objected. ''Does not the senator know that the ruling monarch of Siam is a very highly educated gentleman and a graduate of Oxford'.'" he Inquired. "Well, I will ask you would you admit the people of Siam into California on the same terms of equality that you accord ac-cord people of the white race? You know you wouldn't," Senator Keed retorted, resuming re-suming his speech. Senator Phelan made no comment and continued to write at his desk. For at the precise moment the interruption occurred oc-curred the California senator was inditing in-diting a letter to his friend, tho king of Siam, introducing Frank Deering of San Francisco, who is about to pay tho monarch mon-arch a visit. |
