Show mm TELLS OF " Mil 10S BILL Pending Measure Most Comprehensive, Utah Engineer Writes. Construction of the national system of highways, covering the main arteries of travel north, south, east and west, is to be urged at the present session of congress, con-gress, according to a letter received by Governor Bamberger from Ira K. Browning, Brown-ing, state toad engineer. Senator Town-send, Town-send, chairman of the postoffice and post roads committee, is author of a bill designed de-signed to accomplish this purpose, according accord-ing to Mr. Browning, who has been attending at-tending a conference of road engineers in Washington. The bill was introduced in the closing days of the last congress, Mr. Browning said, for the purpose of making members of congress and others familiar with it, and with the intention of reintroducing It at the present session. Since the last session ses-sion Senator Townsend has been gathering gather-ing as much data as possible. "Constructive suggestions have been brought out to such an extent as to assure a comprehensive and well-balanced measure, mea-sure, which, if enacted, wilt result in a national .system of highways built and maintained by the federal government under un-der the supervision of a commission dealing deal-ing with this one phase of national activity," ac-tivity," Mr. Browning writes. "While the conference was made ip of individuals prominent in the national field, it was strikingly evident that the men present represented a preponderating public sentiment senti-ment throughout the country in favor of good roads." |
