Show SOLDIERS URGED TO IMPROVE THEIR MINDS Governor Bamberger Addresses Ad-dresses Convalescents; School Opens Today. Eager to hear of the educational opportunities op-portunities offered by the Young Men's Christian association in a school for soldiers sol-diers at Fort Douglas, which begins today, to-day, more than SOU soldiers thronged the Red Cross recreation hall last night at an educational rulJy, The men were addressed bv Governor Bamberger, who, disregarding the orders of his physician that he should remain In bed, was present at the meeting and gave the men an Inspirational talk, advising them to take full advantage of the opportunities op-portunities offered by the various courses now open for their instruction. Levi Kdgar Young, professor of history at the L'nivorsity of L'tah, told the nieii , of the invaluable advantages of education educa-tion and urged that they spend the time in the hospital in improving their minds as well as nursing their bodies back to full strength. Captain A. F. Craliam, newly appointed morale and eduenl ioun I officer, for the general hospital, presided at the meeting meet-ing and introduced the speakers. Miss Dida Johnson, confrallo. sang several songs during the program. Music, was furnished by Hiss Schuster's stringed or-oheslra. or-oheslra. After the meeting members of the Girls' f'alri.ilic league staged a dance in tho Red Cross ballroom. Today will witness tin; opening of lite soldiers' school at Hie fort. l-iuipmen for classes is now on hand. Two classes will start al f:iri this morning in Knglish and typewriting. .Most of the day' will be spent in registering tho students and assigning them to classes, all uf which will be in full operation Wednesday morning. |
