General Pershing Per-shing has awarded the distinguished service serv-ice cross to Corpora Waltar Bradfleld, H company, Forty-second Infantry, of St. Ariothony", Idaho, - for extraordinary heroism in action near Stetlen, France, October 8, 191S, while advancing with his company. Corporal Hradfield was wounded wound-ed In the hip by a sniper, who inflicting in-flicting severe losses on the company, and, cmwlina forward, he killed this sniper and continued in action oven after receiving a second wound. .He refused to go to the rear until he was ordered to do so by his company commander. The war department today announced that Shirley M. Barnes of KaysvHle had Tr-een authorized to submit certificate for admission to the West Foint military academy on' July 10. Karnes was appointed ap-pointed by Senator King. Thomas G. Miller of P242 Washington avenue, Ogden, appointed to West Point by Representative Welling, will be admitted ad-mitted on the same day. |
