Show CITY WATER USERS HUE GIVIllj! Waterworks Official Says Residents Must Conserve Con-serve Supply. Restating the fact that the water situation sit-uation in Salt Iake is more serious than most people realize, City Commissioner C. Clarence Xeslen, in charge of the waterworks department of the city, said last night that the period of curtailment would be safely passed providing the water users strictly observe the new sprinkling rules which went into effect yesterday. A further curtailment by which water users will be allowed to sprinkle only twice a week is threatened, however, according ac-cording to Mr. Xeslen, unless offenders against the regulations discontinue the practice of using more water than they are entitled to have. It will be necessary 10 make the innocent suffer for the guilty, said Mr. Xeslen. Twenty thousand circulars are being printed and will be distributed to city water users. These circulars contain the regulations given out yesterday. Ruder these regulations, all houses on the east and south sides of the streets may use the water for sprinkling purposes pur-poses during the hours of 6 and 9 in the morning. Houses on the north and west sides of the streets will have sprinkling privileges during the hqurs of 6 and 9 in the evening. Mouses on streets running in a diagonal direction will follow the cardinal direction of the streets. The days for sprinkling are Sunday. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Thirty minutes is the maximum time allowed for each 1 00 square yards of lawn. The three-hour interval for sprinkling does not imply that water may be used during dur-ing the entire time, according to the waterworks department. The time is dependent de-pendent upon the size of the plot. The use of garden hose without a nozzle is forbidden, and it is advocated that during sprinkling the nozzle be held in the hand. The waterworks department also suggests sug-gests that the owners of lawns do not cut them so often until the water short- j age period is passed. Greater length of ! the grass blades will protect the roots of 1 the lawn. ! Mr. Xreslen advises owners of premises to take particular pains to keep their trees well watered. It is more essential, said Mr. Xeslen, that water he provided to preserve the trees of the city than the lawns. |
