Show UTAH STAKE HOLDS PTEOSESSION postle Whitney of L. D. S. Church Addresses Conference. Special to The Tribune. PROVO, July 27. The quarterly conference con-ference of the Utah stake of the L. D. S. church convened here today. The conference con-ference opened at 3 o'clock this morning. morn-ing. At 10 o'clock the first regular session ses-sion of the conference began, with President Presi-dent Joseph B. Keclcr presiding. Apostle Orson F. Whitney ' addressed the conference. con-ference. Apostle Whitney expressed much pleasure in meeting the people of Utah stake. He referred to the work of the pioneers, and dwelt at length on the things that had grown out of their efforts. He stated that he believed it to be a good thing for the people to consider the things of the past. Prcrident Keeler and President J. William Knight spoke. At the afternoon session Adam Ben-nlon, Ben-nlon, superintendent of the L. D. S. church school system, and Dr. Levi Edgar Ed-gar Young were the principal speakers. At this meeting the general authorities of the church were sustained and the following appointments in Utah stake were confirmed: Ambrose P. Merrill was j honorably released from the high council on account of leaving, this stake. Arthur; K. Taylor was chosen to succeed William"! J. Snow as stake superintendent of Sun- day schools, who is in ill health. Assisting Mr. Taylor on the Sunday fChool board are S. P. Eggertsen. Harold Alleman, Harold Dunn, J. W. McAllister, Samuel Biddoulph, Seymour Mend en hail, ' Algie Eggertsen, Evelyn Bean and Myrtle Myr-tle Jones. John S. Smith was chosen to succeed Milton H. Knudsen as stake superintendent su-perintendent of the Young Men's Mutual Improvement association. Other members of the Y. M. M. I. A. board are A. O. Smoot, Clayton Jenkins. Ray Ash worth, H. C. Hicks, Wyman Berg, Aimer Bird and A. W. Palmer. The following were chosen as the old folks' committee: James Clove, chairman; chair-man; Seymour L. Mendonhall, Charles Crandall and Wyman Berg. The following follow-ing persons were named as a social welfare wel-fare committee: LeRoy Dixon, Edwin H. Smart, Myron E. Crandall, Inez K. Allen, Ina Gee Hodson, Hattie Snow. Arthur N. Taylor. L. K. Eggertsen, Harold Alleman. Al-leman. John S. Smith, T. Sterling Taylor, Stanley Dixon, Achsa Paxman, Zella Roberts, Rob-erts, Mary Mortimer, Joseph A. Buttle, George Ray Maccock, Otto J. Poulson and George A. Startup. The evening session of the conference was taken up by the stake Sunday schools. Adam Bennion was the principal speaker. |
