Show WAR IS COMMENCED ON CANADA THISTLE Theron W. Bennion, deputy ' state crop and pest inspector, in charge of the campaign against weeds, says that sodium arsenate will be tested out in Utah county against the Canada thistle, in the hope that the chemical will not only kill the part of the plant above the ground, but also the part underneath under-neath the surface, which causes even more trouble in attempts to eradicate the weed. War on this noxious weed in Utah county is particularly difficult, for the reason that it has gained a foothold in orchards, where the low trees make eradication by cultural processes inconvenient, incon-venient, if not impossible. It is said there are patches of this thistle 200 or 300 acres in extent, and spreading rapidly. rap-idly. ilr. Eennion says a vigorous war on weeds is being maintained in Utah county, under the direction of Otto W. Paulson, county inspector. Similar conditions, thoueh not to such a great extent, exist in Sanpete county. The deputy inspector says some heavy storms 'have" occurred in South Sanpete county, and that crops there are looking look-ing well, as also arc the crops in Millard, Mil-lard, where there has been a good supply sup-ply of water. Millard county beet fields are in especially good condition, j |
