Show 1 CLOTHES Oil HEARS COUPLE Salt Lake Expected to Make Quota and Go Over Top. I Great stacks of shoes, men's suits, coats, overcoats and underwear, wo-"" wo-"" yen's and children's garments, hats for both sexes, and bales of clothing ire heaped on the 8U00 i'ceb of flcyr space at Hed Cross used clothes head- quarters at 148 South Main street, until un-til there is hardly space left to walk about. Still the trucks donated by the fire department, the board of education edu-cation and the army Bed Cross at Fort Douglas cannot keep abreast of the calls made upon them. With the drive almost closed, those in charge of the campaign state that there. is no doubt that Salt Lake will make its quota and surpass all othor previous local records for giving. "The generosity of the Salt Lakers in- this drive 'for old clothes ' is unparalleled, un-paralleled, " said E. J. Shields, manager man-ager of the Salt Lake county chapter of the Red Cross, last night. "At present, pres-ent, at the end of one week, we have more clothes than we had last fall at the end of a two weeks' drive. We still have to gather in the clothes that have been left at school houses and fire stations. The amount of clothing exceeds all our most hopeful expectations. expecta-tions. At present we have on the premises prem-ises at central headquarters two carloads car-loads of old clothes. Monday, if we have enough time and kelp, we will send out a carload." "We need more help now than anything any-thing else," said Mrs. George M. Miller, Mil-ler, chairman of the overseas old clothes campaign committee, when seen last night at campaign headquarters. "If we do not have more help we will be swamped. We are sending out a call for fifty workers for Monday, and we will probably need as many every day next week. We especially need four men who will work the clothes press and balo the clothes. "Though we will undoubtedly make our quota, keep on sending the olotb.es. They -will all be put to eood use. There will be many districts that for one reason rea-son or another will not be able to make their quota, and any that we can give over our own quota will help to make the total contribution equal to the tremendous need. "If our trucks do not call for some time, do not lose patience. We are hundreds of calls behind, but we will eventually get there. Let all those who can please come and help." |
