Show iGGIES 111 TO IMS Thirty Candidates Answer First Call for Track and Baseball. Special to The Tribune. LOGAN, March 29. The athletes, at the Utah Agricultural college did not take much of a rest after the basketball schedule ended in Salt Lake last week. It was impossible for them to stay away from-the baseball field when the weather suddenly changed from winter into midspring. About thirty candidates candi-dates camo out for the spring sports at the first call, and many more are expected. ex-pected. But very few of the men have had any experience in college athletics. ath-letics. Those who have won college letters in baseball and track are Lester Jar-vis, Jar-vis, Clyde Woriey, "Ourlo'y" Bowen, Glen Hayward aiid Wallace Wayman. Things are not discouraging to Coach L. Romney even with but few old men back. Many other athletes have stated their intention of trying out for some line of spring work. Among these are Andrus, Harris. Mohr. Anderson, Bur-ston, Bur-ston, Edwards, McKay and Eccles. Much rivalry already exists among the men training for the cross-country run which is to be held "A" day, April 21. The run will be over a three-milo three-milo course, which will lead from the college hill to the Logan City cemetery and return. Some of the most prominent promi-nent runners working out each day for this event are H. Jacques, C. Mc-Bride, Mc-Bride, M. Nagle, "Curley" Bowen and C. Jones. While Coach Eomney has been giving his baseball and track men a workout on tho field, Coach Joe Jensen, who has taken over the gymnasium work, has been promoting games inside. His first attempt was that of a fraternity basketball bas-ketball series, which will end this week. Next week he will promote a water polo series between the classes. The Aggies are anxious to make the swimming game a big thing at the school and they feel that now is their chance, since the V. of U., the Deserct gym and the L. D. S. university all have water teams. 1'or early season training the coach has arranged a class series iu baseball, as well as a class track meet. Tho baseball series will be next week. Wednesday the "Frosh" play the "Sophs," and Thursday the losers play the senior-junior team. Friday the winners of the first two games play for the championship. The class track and field meet will be held on Adams field, April 11. The first three high-point winners will be given medals for their work. Adams field is being fixed up and should be in excellent shape in ten days. |
