Show Veteran Eddie Plank, Who Is Prominent in Baseball Deal r- h - ... , r vk'V ff 7 JIU-JITSU SHARK TO MEM TIGHT Takahashi and Christopher-son Christopher-son to Test Skill at the Grand Theater. A Japanese jiu-jitsu expert, working only a part of his jiu-jitsu stock in trade, will try conclusions with a catch-as-catch-can wrestler tonight at the Grand theater. S. Takahashi, a celebrated celebrat-ed exponent of the Nipponese art of rendering' ren-dering' an opponent helpless, will meet Alex Christopherson, a gigantic Utah grappler. Christopherson is well known to local mat fans. He appeared several times in Salt-Lake, and had numerous matches at Lehi and elsewhere. In order to make things more even, the jiu-.iitsu expert will forego some of his most potent tricks and the catch-as-cateh-canner will be permitted greater latitude than the recognized ethics of the mat game in America allow. In explaining ex-plaining this arrangement, it is to be pointed out that the following are the bases upon which points in Jiu-jitsu are computed: 1 Throw-down on the mat. 2 Breaking joints and choking. 3 Kicking. 4 Hitting with fist or elbow. Now, in tonight's match. No. 1 will not be counted in the scoring, and Nos. 3 and 4 will not be used, because their use might lead to serious Injury. 1 Since No. 2 is to be allowed, Christopherson Chris-topherson will be permitted to use the strangle hold, which is barred in straight matches, and also will be permitted the toe hold, the nelsons and scissors. Christopherson weighs about 220 pounds and Takahashi about 140 pounds, accord- 1 ing to announcement. A number of preliminary matches and exhibitions have been arranged for tonight's to-night's show. These include a catch-as-catch-can match between Shell and Teshlroga and jiu-jitsu matches between the following pairs: Nakashima and Yokosawa. Shell and Bokudo, Yamanigi and Tateyama. There will also be a boxing match or two. For those who have never seen the art of jiu-jitsu applied, no doubt, tonight's exhibition will be an interesting event. Takahashi has innumerable credentials to show that he is an expert at the business, and newspaper accounts of matches he ha.s had on the Pacific coast, in Idaho and elsewhere indicate that he is a master at his trade. |
