More than 500 calves have thus far been donated by the farmers and stock growers of Utah, and thero is groat rivalry among the various counties as to which will donate the largest number. At the close of the stock show the calves will be sold at public auction, and the amount realized from the -sale of the calves from each county will bo placed to the credit of tho Red Cross chapter of that county. In all counties of the state committees of nct less than five members have been organized to conduct a campaign for the donation of calves from every cattleman and stockgrower in the county. This is a part of a general campaign being conducted throughout the cattle-raising cattle-raising states to form a herd which will be known as the "A. R. C." herd, and the calves will either be branded A. R. C. on the side or will be tagged with ear tags. The latter is generally considered preferable. Those who buy .the calves at the auction to be held at the close of the Intermountain fat stock show in this fcity may either hold them or return them to be SQld again for the benefit of the Red Cross. It is estimated that the sale will result in the raising of close to $100,-000. $100,-000. to be divided pro rata among the county chapters. J. H.
