In the six-day bicycle race, which ended at midnight, McNamara and Magin led the field all through the week aa point winners, and before the final sprints began they led Madden and Corry by 68 points. During the final hour twenty-seven sprints were decided. Of these. McNamara and Magin won nine, while Madden and Corry finished fin-ished first in seven. During the seventh sprint Kopsky and his partner, Coburn, tried to steal a lap and succeeded in gaining more than half the distance, while the crowd cheered wildly. The chase lasted through the greater part of two miles before the field caught up with them again. The total mileage score of the leaders for 144 hours was 2447 miles, last year the record was 2510 miles. Cash prizes amounting to $16, were awarded to the fifteen teams which entered en-tered the race. The winners received J3000; second prize was $2500; third, $2000; fourth, $1500; fifth, $1200; sixth, $1000, and seventh, $850. The eighth and ninth teams got $760 and $S50 and the remainder, amounting to $3960, was divided di-vided among the other six teams. |
