Show CHURCH ATTENDANCE IS BELOW NORMAL Peace Demonstrations of November 11 Praised From Pulpit. 1 From the pulpits of all churches in Salt Lake, in which services were held yesterday upon the lifting of the influenza influ-enza ban, expressions - of thanks emanated ema-nated in return for the privilege of again being permitted to gather for worship. Congregations were not normal in size and attendance generally was small. There was an air of sincerity, however, among those who gathered in supplication, supplica-tion, which marked the occasion as one of more than usual appreciation. Yesterday being the first Sunday since the signing of the armistice on which services were permitted, because of the influenza, special thanks were offered for the privilego of giving praise that the prayers of the people that peace soon might reign throughout the world had been answered by the ending of the four years of war. The patriotism of the people in making so grand a demonstration on November 11, the day on which the news of the signing of the armistice was flashed from city to city and to the most remote corners cor-ners of the earth, was commended. That the time liad come, however, when the people might commune under the guidance guid-ance of their ministers and give expression expres-sion in praise of their spiritual appreciation apprecia-tion of world peace and in one accord worship the ruler of the universe because of the survival of democracy and the freedom of the world was the keynote of every sermon. Tho churches in which services were not he!d yesterday, the pastors not deeming; deem-ing; it advisable because of the fact that the influenza has not compel toly been eradicated from the city, were the First and Third Presbyterian, the First and Liberty Park Methodist Episcopal, the First and Phillips Congregational and all of the Latter-day Saints churches. |
