Show GENERAL J OFF RE EXPRESSES BELIEF IN COMING VICTORY HEADQUARTERS Op THE GENERAL GENER-AL STAFF' IX FRANCE. AutJ. 5. 5:n0 p. m. General Joseph Joffre, peneral-issirno peneral-issirno of the French army and the puif.1-int,' puif.1-int,' spirit of the united army of the entente en-tente allies, toilay rcMvei tlie Associated Associ-ated Press correspondent here ami for upward of an hour talked freely and fully on many imprest! ne; current phases of the war. He expressed the view that the turning point of the preat conflict had now been successfully readied and pnssed and. with the united action of the allies on many fronts. they were pressing- forward to the certain collapse of the German efforts and to an assured victory. Turning his attention to the actual condition con-dition of the campaign, the general said: Although the fighting Is getting more and more bitter, everyone recognizes rec-ognizes in the complete unity of the allies that destiny has shaped its course and everyone ch n el pa rly see what the final outcome is going to be. The unity on all fronts is a great characteristic of the campaign now gning on, and the effect is now apparent appar-ent of the constant pressure on all sides by the allies, who now have had time to form their plans, thanks to the sacrifices which the French nation has marie at Verdun. We must also pay full homage to the splendid part our allies are taking in the increasing in-creasing efforts along the Somroe and on ail other fronts. The Russian effort ef-fort has now succeeded in organizing and putting forward larger and larger forces of men, d raw n from their apparently inexhaustible sources of human ma terial and at the same time fully arming these masses. The splendid results of their efforts are shown in what they have accomplished accom-plished tn Onlicla and along the entire en-tire eastern front. If, on the other side, we consider the condition of our enemv, we know for certain thai, although they are fighting as desperately as ever, they are drawing on their last reserves. Their game has been up until now to transfer their reserves from ope point to another arid from one front to another, but with the united action of the allies on all fronts our enemy finds such a course impossible now and will find it increasingly so in the future. It is not for me to say how long the struggle is going to last, but that really mallets little. We know the crash is corning, and you feel, as well as we do, that we have already reached and passed the turning point. The five mouths" resistance re-sistance of our troops at Verdun has shattered the hopes of the Cermans any! has turned the scale. Rut still, donot imagine tha t there is a complete com-plete weakenl ng of the Genua n effort ef-fort on the western front.
