Show STRAWBERRY ZONE TO BE ENLARGED Reclamation Service to Spend $500,000 for 1 New Irrigation Canals. With a view of increasing the area watered bv the Strawberry project from 60,000 to bo,000 acres, the "United States reclamation service proposes to spend approximately half a million dollars in the construction of new irrigation canals. ca-nals. Preliminary to beginning the work, ,T. C. Lytel, engineer in charge of the Strawberry valley project, yesterday-filed yesterday-filed an application with United States District Attorney V. W. Kay to divert the iise of sufficient water to care for the additional'25,000 acres. The water is to be obtained from two sources, the flood waters of the Spanish Fork river during the early part of the season and stored water from the Strawberry river during the latter part of the season. The application was approved by Mr. Ray and has been filed with the state engineer's office. The new main canal will be about twenty miles and the laterals about twenty-two miles in length. The land to be placed under irrigation irriga-tion is in the vicinity of Salem, Pay-son Pay-son and Santaquin and ,is now being dry farmed. |
