Show BELGIUM ALMOST CLEAR OF GERMANS By PERCY J. PHILIP. (Special War Dispatches of the International Interna-tional News Service and London Daily News.) OUDEXARDB. Belgium, Sept. IS. Except Ex-cept for two army corps with their supports sup-ports of marines and old men. which the Belgian army is keeping busy around Antwerp, the Germans have almost entirely en-tirely left the country. Since last Friday they have been traveling trav-eling sou tli west. Their numbers have been given at anywhere from 30,000 to 60,000. It is certain that they have drawn every available man to the front, probably to help in the formation of some strong line of defense, which, taking into account the army's entire lack of support, must be a battle ground of the greatest consequence in this section of the war. If the allies carry this position, . the rest of tlie journey through Belgium will be a rout. But the battle will certainly be the bloodiest of all times. We have yet to learn how the Germans fight in trenches on the defensive. Everyone here speaks of Valenciennes as certain to be the center of this defense de-fense line. |
