Joe Mandot made folks sit up and blink their eyes In astonishment tonight. The slender New Orleans champion handed Ad Wol-gast. Wol-gast. once terror of the division, an artistic artis-tic cuffing in the len-round windup at the Dreamland arena. Mandot was so far ahead at the final gong that Ad would have needed an automobile to catch him. Mandot surprised the writer by bis sensational showing. He had everything he needed, both on attack and defense, and had Wolgast completely baffled all the wav. Mandot cut Ad's face up some with left hooks and right uppercuts and dealt him solid thumpings on the body. The Cadillac veteran was weary and disgusted dis-gusted when It was all over. Wolgast carried something of a paunch and was decidedly slow. He fought like a man with only a one-punch chance to win. Occasionally he onened up and did some mauling with both hands, but for the greater part of the route he simply stood his ground, took his licking and tried everv once in a while to land on .loe's retreating chin with a left swing. .Joe kept the chin out of the way pretty well. It was a slushing fight, well worth watching. |
