Show Encke's Comet Appears. WILLIAMS BAY, Wis.. Sept. IS. Encke's comet was re-discovered last night by Professor Barnard of the Yerkes conservatory on photographs taken by him, according to an announcement today. to-day. The comet's position was right ascension as-cension 3 hours, 43 minutes and 40 seconds: sec-onds: declination, north 377 degrees 46 minutes. The comet has taken its name from Johann Franz Encke. a German astronomer, astrono-mer, assistant in the observatory of See-burg. See-burg. He calculated the orbit of the comet observed by Mechain. Miss Herscheland Pons predicted its return re-turn and detected a gradual acceleration of movement ascribed by htm to the presence pres-ence of a resisting medium. |
