Show sew fill IHJUSG RUSH ... The sophomores of the Granite high School won the annual flag rush from the freshmen by a score of 30 to 18 hands. This makes the second time which tho sophomores have won the ; rush. Last, year as freshmen the same class woo by one hand. ' As a means of scoring the results of the rush at the end of a ten-minute period the class having the largest mini-I mini-I bcr of hands on the flag is declared winner by the referee. The flag is a piece of reinforced canvas, two and one-half one-half feet Bquare. Three members of eah class take hold of the canvas. When the whistle blows for the start the other forty members of each class rush in. k , The six in the center get the benefit of the charge. Although eighty members j took part in the rush there "were no in- juries of any importance, but. several lot" the contestants were stepped on now and then or got kicked in the eyes and -head, but other than this the rush went off in the best of order. This rush gives the sophomores permanent per-manent possession of the flag. The same piece of canvas was won by the freshmen of last vear and the numeral '17 was, placed on one side. The same number will be placed on the other side of tho piece and officially offi-cially presented to the sophomore class as a trophy. Coach Willard Ashton acted as ref- , ereu for the event. He was kept as busy watching the human mass as were any of the contestants. Tbe only restrictions re-strictions that were placed before the contestants were that there be no slug- ' ging or "extremely rough handling of an opponent." ; At the end of tho rush came the "bust." AH the students were given Jail the watermelon they could eat and . ithen proceeded to the dance hall. As .means of getting acquainted doughnuts j wore used. A number was placed in ! the center of the doughnut and the boy vhose number corresponded with that , of some girl was entitled to dance with her. Practically all the 300 students j became acquainted with each other. |
