Show ST. IS ODE COMES FROM DEEP H WORK Some Curiosity Among the Goldfield Citizens Over the Present Situation. Special to The Tribune. GOLDFIELD, Nov., Oct. 4. Rumors without end have been circulated lately regarding the results of work on the deep levels of tho St. Ives mine of tho Goldfield Merger company. Local men have been curious enough on occasion to go to the mine and tako samples from the dump and have them assayed, and as they are aware that tho cages are now working to the 3750-foot levol they have taken it for granted that the company was getting oro on thl3 level and have circulated reports to that effect In point of fact, tho company has found no ore whatever on tho 1750-foot level, but is following up and developing scams of oro on tho 1330-foot level that woro exposed in driving tho crosscut at this depth to connect with the workings of the Grizzly Bear mine of the Goldfield Consolidated on tho west It has been demonstrated on the 1400-foot level of the Grizzly Bear mine that tho big ore body enters the Merger ground and work is being extended In this direction In tho endeavor to pick up tho ore Bhoot on its downward pi-ojcctlon, and, if it is not found hero, raises will be driven In the big vein, which is fifty feot wide at this point, to locate tho ore. Tho crosscut on the 1750-foot level, which Is being driven to the Atlanta property, should reach the boundary line of tho Union Jack claim of tho latter within less than a month, unless tho ground proves unexpectedly difficult to penetrate and timber. When this point is reached the Merger company will suspend sus-pend work at this point and the Atlanta will then take up the work of driving to the big -ein in Its own ground, and tho Merger will proceed to explore tho Assured As-sured territory through which tho Bhaft passed at a depth of about 1700 feet and which, it is believed, will be penetrated j on tho 1750 level a short distance north of the shaft President C. O. Whlttemore of the Morger company was in camp a short time ago and stated in an Interview that tho company's operations would be conducted con-ducted along the lines planned over a year ago, and eventually tho big main shaft will probably he continued to a depth of 2000 feet, while the various levels, including those opened on the 1330 and 1750, and now ones above and below be-low theso, will bo explored In a most thorough manner. The men at the head of this enterprise. Including former Senator Sena-tor William A. Clark and his associates, are confident that they will be enabled to make a great mine on this proporty and are conducting the work with that end in view. The property is one of the best equipped In tho state and there Is assurance of ample funds to carry on tho work Indefinitely. |
