Show RELEASE OF SUSPECTS FAVORED BY GRANT Upon Bequest of Chief, Judge Loof-bourow Loof-bourow Enters Order; Habeas Corpus Writs Not Needed. On tho request of Chief of Police B. F. Grant and the order of Judgo P. C. Loofbourow three men, arrosted last Sunday nndor suspicion of having stolen stol-en merchandise from a Denver & Itio Grande box car, were released yesterday yester-day from tho city jail. An attorney representing tho prisoners, O. E. Cook, Thomas Foley and J. W. Freelaud, had brought habeas corpus proceedings to secure their roleuBo. The writs were secured against the chief of police. Assistant City Attorney Aaron Myors, who represented Chief Grant, 'informed the court that tho mon had been arrested ar-rested at the instigation of special officers of-ficers for tho railroad company aud that no complaints had been filed against them, but that tho police department de-partment was without authority to release re-lease the moiK excepting upon order of tho court. Mr. Myors also added that the chief believed the men should be releasd under tho circumstances. Thereupon, There-upon, Judge Loofbourow ordored the prisoners released. |
