Show A SAMPLE BIT OF "LOYALTY." Those who hesitalo to believe that a pretondcdly religious denomination can so far forget the teachings of tho Savior, whom its leaders profess to fpllow, as to inculcate vengeful feelings in the hoarts of tho pooplo are requested to coutcmplato tho following. It is a briof extract from a sermon delivered by President Ilcbcr C. Kimball on July 7, 1801, nnd ma' bo found in tho Journal of Discourses, volume G, page 181: Our sons and daughters will live to see the completo overthrow of the Nation,' and they will average our wrongs. Many of them woro born while wc were undergoing under-going thoao afflictions, and the blood of retributive Justice Is in them, and I know this as well as I know that 1 live and dwell upon this earth. Tho treasonable spirit exhibited in that utterance is still perpetuated through the temple oaths. Those who lake on tho "endowments" of Mor-mondom Mor-mondom aro roquirod to swear that thoy will pray unceasingly that the Lord will avonge the "martyrs," Joseph and Hy-rum Hy-rum Smith, upon this Nation. Wheu the temple at Saint George was dedicated, dedi-cated, thoso who offered tho dedicatory prayers included that sentiment in their supplications. From Brigharn Young down through all of the presidents of tho church, to and including .Toaoph F. Smith, this spirit of rebellion has been manifested. The present head of tho organization was especially rancorous at one lime against tho Federal Government Govern-ment and its oflicial reprosontal ives in this (then) Territory. Ho cursed thorn as being corrupt and opprossivo, and as fitting embassadors of an unjust Nation. Na-tion. Ho even wont so far as to advise the Mormon people lo arm themselves and drivo tho officers out of tho Territory Terri-tory and run things to suit themselves. And all this because of Iho opposition of those officials to persistent determination determina-tion lo defj- the law and if possible destroy the Government. In (he old days thoro woro fond d roams of conquest indulged by the Mormon leaders, and thoy frequently prophesied concerning evils and overthrow that woro to happen hap-pen to this Nation. But in this mat-lor mat-lor thoy wcro quite as far wrong ns thoy have been in their other predictions, predic-tions, even though their faith and prayers pray-ers havo been exorcised and uttered in Iho hopo of bringing about gratification of their treasonable wishes. |
