Of the three gas manufacturing man-ufacturing plans in North America- whero gas is made by the new low pressure generative gen-erative process, one is located at Ogden and owned by the PIntsch company. The old gas plant which has been in operation opera-tion here for a number of years, and which has been furnishing gas for the Illumination of passenger coaches of the various railroad companies, has been remodeled, re-modeled, the old retort system of manufacturing manu-facturing gas being changed to the Improved-generating process, and the capacity capac-ity increased to four times Its former output. out-put. Before the improvements on the plant were begun last fall 48.000 cubic feet were the daily capacity. This capacity has been increased to 250.000 cftbic feet per day. although only 75.000 cubic feet Is being manufactured at the prosent time. Gas for lighting the conches of the Union Pacific. Southern Pacific. Oregon Short Lino, the Salt Lake Route, the Western Pacific and the Denver & Rio Grande railroad companies Is being prepared pre-pared by the low pressure process each day at the local jJlant. Every other gas mahlng plant in the United States is using the old process, known as the retort system, in tho manufacture manu-facture of the lllumlnant, with the exception ex-ception of the local plant, one at Montreal, Mont-real, Canada, and another at Portland. Ore, While the manufacture of gas by the low pressure system Is still in its experimental stage. It has thus far proved so successful that it is expected to compete com-pete with the artlllclal Illuminating gas Industry because of the simplicity and the economic possibilities.
