"Bob" Lowe, former Detroit player, now a scout for the Tigers, will arrive In Salt Lake this morning from Boise for the nurpose of looking over Pitcher Willis Morgan and Shortstop "Bill" Orr of tho Salt Lake team. These two players play-ers havo birtsn recommended to Detroit so strongly that Lowe has been sent to look ' them over. If these two players appear to Lowe to be as good us their recommendations Indicate. they will probably Iw purchased by tho Tigers and will be In -Detroit uniforms next year. Lowe comes In today from Boise. L'u-fore L'u-fore that he was In Butte. Ho was wall pleased with the baseball played in the I'nlon association, so well pleased that he Is planning to secure half n dozen recruits from this league. In Butte he secured an option on Pitcher Remneas and Catcher Hannah. In Boise he purchased pur-chased Carl Flick, the fast Boise second baseman, and he comes here for tho purpose of securing Morgan and Orr. Morgan and Orr are among the best of the youngsters on the Salt Lake team. Morgan Is leading the Salt Lake pitching staff and is one of the best pitchers In the league. He has nil sorts of speed and a good assortment of curves. His best asset Is almost perfect control. Ho Is only a youngster and probably has a great future before hlnn He Is purely a local product. Born at Wellsville. he pitched in local "kid" teams until a few years ago. when he went to tho Agricultural Agricul-tural college at Logan and pitched winning win-ning ball for that college. Then ho pttchad for tho Wellsvllle .club. He was picked up at Dlamondvlllo and brought to Salt Luke to pitch against tho Occidentals. Occi-dentals. He did so well that this spring ho was recommended to Hlankenshln. Always steady and absolutely reliable, he has proven of groat strength to the Salt Lake club. On the recent trip Morgan Mor-gan pitched several times a weak, and Just now is suffering a bit from overwork, over-work, which Interfejres somewhat with his curves, but not ut all with his speed and control. Blankenship believes Mor- j gnu will make good higher up. Orr Is one of the most phenomenal In-flolders In-flolders In the league. He Is excoptlon- Mtlly good at aceopting perfectly almost impossible chances. He Is just a bit erratic, however, which Is probably due to his youth. He has lightning speed and covers a great deal of territory. At bat ho is a strong hitter, exceptionally good as a pinch hitter. With men on bnscs Orr Is almost sure lo hit safely. Ho has started several batting rallies which havo pulled games out of the fire for Salt Lake. Those who havo been following closely the work of Morgan and Orr all senson believe that Detroit might do a great deal worse than to purchase both of these players. |
