Show STRIKE RIOTS li Man Killed and Woman Probably Proba-bly Fatally Injured in Clash With Police. MEXICO CITY. July 5. The street car strike claimed its Urst victims tonight. In a clash between police and strikers one man was killed and a woman probably prob-ably fatally Injured. Several persons were moro or less seriously wounded. The pbllce charged a mob which was storm-in? storm-in? a car In a downtown street. With the outcome of the strike to be determined, the people here were tonight facing two more walkouts that further threaten their bodily comfort. Their supplies of cigarettes and breakfast rolls are endangered by proposed strikes of tobacco factory hands and breadmalcers. The street railway company maintained a limited service to the suburbs today following the men's refusal to resume work this morning. Several clashes with strikers and the rabble that gathered occurred, but the disorders were not of a serious nature. Many arrests were made. Officials believe they will be able to resume regular service on practically all lines tomorrow morning. The cigarette makers object to being "trimmed" by the barber every fifteen days, as was rerjuired by the rules of the company. They also demanded an Increase In wages. A similar demand has been made by the United Breadmakers of the Federal district and their threat to strike has caused much concern. |
