This statement was given out by Frank Gawau, general superintendent superin-tendent for l- J. Morau, who has the cdntract for repairing, resurfacing, re-curbing re-curbing and registering tho street from South Templo to Fourth South street, early Saturday evening. t By the qualification, ''if nothing happens." hap-pens." But it looks now as if there is no use for tho forfeiture clause. All tho asphalt is down on tho east side of the street and tho west half of tho block between Third and Fourth South is resurfaced, giving ono whole block completed. By tonight ono-half ot the west side between Second aud Third South will be covered, the binder course that is, the course next to the asphaltum being already down and : waiting for tho asphaltum. By Wednesday Wednes-day night the west side of the block between Second and Third South streets Will bo coinnlclcd, giving two whole blocks entirely down. By this time tho binder course will be down on tho west side of the two remaining half-blocks aud it will only take about three or four days moro to put on the asphaltum. The "street will then be ready for the public. Monday will be the first day of vacation va-cation for the 200 to 300 men employed on this job. The gangs have worked every Sunday and will worn, today, but Morau is patriotic, and believes in giving giv-ing his men a chance to celebrate the Fourth, consequently thcro will be idleness idle-ness along Main street Monday. Tho cost of tho improvement will total about $77,000, distributed as follows: fol-lows: Property owners, $4S,000; Utah Light & 3iailwav company, $20,000; city, -:;3000. |
