Show " WESTERNERS KILL IE PITTED ABAINST EAST Records From the West Have Always Been Looked Upon Suspiciously. SEATTLE, July 3. For the first timo in tho history of American athletics ath-letics the best track men of the west will compete on a western field against the east, in the great American Amateur Ama-teur Athletic union track meet at tho stadium of tho Alaska-Yukon-Pacific exposition. Friday and Saturday, August Aug-ust 12 and 13. Although western athletes have often mado good in the cast, no strictly west' cm loam has over competed successfully success-fully against eastern stars. It has been complained that this is on account of tho fact that, few western men havo been entered in tho eastern meets because be-cause of the change of conditions. From tho records that have been mado hi Pacific coast athletics in tho past Cow years, this should bo ono of the greatest track meets in tho history of the country. Against tho experience and numbers which the cast has at its command, the western athlctos will havo an offset in the fact that the meet is held on a western field and amid familiar conditions. |
