The demand for eatables was especially es-pecially heavy In the fresh fruit and vegetable department. Meat and fish sold fairly well, considering tho time of the year, but the demand for poultry was rather light owing especially to tho high price. Now potatoes were moderately plentiful plenti-ful Saturday and met with a good sale. The vegetable comes from California and dealers offered It at four pounds for 23 cents. Old potatoes are now practically off tho market. New cabbage also sold pretty well. Of course the demnnd for vegetables for side illshcs. as lettuce, radishes, rad-ishes, new onions and so on, was also good. A shipment of watermelons from Texas was received in the city Saturday morning. morn-ing. They were among the best, which have put in an appearance thus far this season and commanded all (lie way from 75 cents to $1.50 each, Cantaloupes were moderately plentiful at 5, 10 and 15 cents each.
