Show BARLOW REFUSES II RELIHQinSHIIACHIRE As Result, Chief of Police Must Show Cause Before Justice Jus-tice Hanks. "Am I to understand that you will ont obey the order of tho court?" was tho question put to Chief Barlow by Peter Hansen, constable of the iustice court of Stanley A. Hanks, when he arrived at tho polico station Saturday afternoon with an order for the slot machines that had been taken up by tho police. Chief Barlow told Hansen that ho was going to keep tho machines, and the chief, with tho following men, was thereupon served with summons to appear ap-pear in the iustice court ad show cause why they should not return the slot machines: Thomas Simpson, Joe Pugs-ley, Pugs-ley, Liiise- and Spicer. Tho defendants are given ten days to appear and defend the action brought against them to recover possession of a "certain box, or mechanical device, built, made nnd consisting of wood, glass and metal, and known as and commonly called an upright 'perfection.' 'perfec-tion.' " Regardless of the summons served upon the defendants the confiscation of the slot machines seen on the counters of the cigar stores of the city goes merrily on. Patrolman Simpson strolled into tho cigar store of llemenway & Moser on Saturday afternoon and gathered gath-ered in his arms another slot, machine which ho found in operation on the counter. He took it to the station, where it was tagged and placed with a companion machino taken from the same place by the same patrolman on Friday afternoon. Chief Barlow maintains main-tains that ho will rid tho city of all of the slot machines as rapidly as they are placed on the counter. |
