Show NewB of Murray. Special to The Tribune, MURRAY, July 3, For tho ilr3t time since he took ofllce, Justice C. II. Banks this week imposed a fine of $5 upon the driver of the ITallorun-Judge automobile of Suit Lake. Tho younp man went tearing tear-ing through Murray at break-neck speed, but not too fast for the eagle eye of the chief of the city constabulary to detect the number. The Halloran-Judge people were called up on tho phone, and tho young man appeared and deposited the 3aid amount with the. city recorder. This wo'.'k the contract for tho manual training laboratory for the Granite high school was let to V. Hampton of Salt Lake, whose bid was $080. At present bids have been received by the school board for buildings to bo erected at Big Cottonwood. JIuntor, Kast Mill Creek, Pleasant View, and at Fourteenth South street. All citv officers for the new town of M'dvnle took the oath of ofllce this week before C. I. Goff, notary public. The ceremony was carried out in the W O. W. hall. Quite a largo number of citizens of tho town were Interested spectators. All officers-elect were accompanied by their bondsmen, and received the congratulations con-gratulations of those present. Following are the officers who took the oath: Hy-rum Hy-rum GolT. mayor; E. A. Batcman. recorder; record-er; J. K. Robertson, treasurer; Niels Lund, citv justice: J. M. Watson, George Jenkins. P. F.. Sullivan and Henry Miller, councilman. Grass Ilres were raging nt the mouth of Big Cottonwood canyon this morning, and thick columns of smoko enveloped the. surrounding valley. The blaze started among the dry grasses at the mouth, and was fanned by a down-canyon breeze. Kor a while it looked as though the first powerhouse of the Utah Light and Kail-way Kail-way company would be destroyed, but through the prompt action of men the blaze was kept a good distnnco from the power plant. A new Industry has sprung up In Salt Lako county, and it is the soap industry. Pete Poulson of Murray and the original discoverer, Edmund Price, of the soup mine near Draper have completed the experiments ex-periments For the past two months these men have been working ceaselessly in their ' experiments, and now they arc ready to produco a pure, natural soap for laundry purposes and common toilet uses.
