Show KEERL LOSES IN LONG FIGHT FOR HIS FREEDOM HELENA, Mont., April 10. W. H. Poorman, assistant attorne' general, today to-day received a telegram from Washington Washing-ton to the effect that the supreme court had affirmed the decision of tho Montana Mon-tana courts in tho James S. Kcerl caso, one of the most bitterly contested murder mur-der trials in the history of Montana jurisprudence. Tveerl was a prominent and well con nected civil engineer of this city, who killed Thomas Crystal, a bartender. His first trial resulted in a conviction on a second degree charge, but a new trial was granted by the supreme court. This resulted in a hung .jury, and on the third trial, at Great' Falls, ho was convicted con-victed of manslaughter and sentenced to the penitentiary for ten years, which he is now serving, and winch must bo continued until tho announcement from Washington. |
