Tliis ho'po is about to bo realized. Tho adjutant general is in receipt of an official copy of the order of tho chief of ordnance of the United States army to different United States arsenals to furnish tho stato with this enuipmont. Tho items of tho equipment aro as follows: fol-lows: Four 3-inch gun carriages; eight flinch fl-inch gun caissons: twelve 3-iuch gun limbers; eight covers for fuse setters; four breech covers; one 3-inch gun bat- very wagon: one 3-inch gun and .'i.S-inch Howitzer forge limber; one 3-mch 3-mch gun storo .wagon; one 3-inch gun and 3.S-inch 'Howitzer storo limber; Brocket fuse setters; hand fuso setters; subcalibur and drill cartridge kits; fue. base percussion, section; fuso combination, sectional; empty shrapnel for instruction: decapping, cleaning and priming tools: battery commanders 1 telescope tel-escope complete with tripod and case; iifteen sets artillery harness, wheel; tweutv-nine sets artillery harness, load; forty-four harness sacks; 133 ar.tiilery knapsacks. . , Tho battery now has the 3.2-iuch gun of the same model used during the hpunish-American war, which is greatly inferior in all respects to the now guns in question. It is probable that the guns now on hand will be returned to one of the United Stales arsenals on receipt of the new. |
