Show CENTRAL SUPPLY SYSTEM FOR NEW YORK HOSPITALS NEW YORK, April 10. Acting upon the suggestion of W. V. S. Thornc, purchasing agent of iho Union Pacific, Southern Pacific and other ITarriman lines, the forly-fivo hospitals of New York holding membership in tho hospital hos-pital conferonco aro to be brought under un-der central supply purchasing department, depart-ment, which will "buy a.U the drugs, foods, furnishings, fuel and instruments now furnished individually by each of tho institutions. Tho proposals to apply Harriman methods to tho purchasing departments of tho hospitals in question was made by Mr. Thorne at a moating of Lhe conference con-ference held hero at the Academy of Medicine. Mr. Thorno showed that on tho $2.-6SS,G'I7 $2.-6SS,G'I7 spent for supplies last year bv the forty-five institutions, a saving of $161,318 could be affected at a cost of $24,000. This $2-1.000 would be used for tho maintenance of a central purchasing pur-chasing department in charge of a head buyer at a salary of $7500' a year and with a staff of clerics and an office of its own. The cost would bo shared proportionately pro-portionately by all hospitals entering into tho agreement'. All those in attondanco at tho conferonco con-feronco voted in favor of tho scheme, which now only awaits tho ratification of tho various boards of governors to becomo operative. |
