Tho White House today was the gathering point of a host of representatives, particularly par-ticularly tho leaders of the houso who had a hnnd in tho passage of tho ro-ccut ro-ccut tariff bill. Speakor Cannon led the pilgrimage and there was no secret in tho fact that he, with tho others, rendered an account of their stewardship steward-ship of tho new measure. After tho speaker came Representative Payne, sponsor for tho bill; Roproscntativo Cashman, one of tho principals in the fight to keep a tariff on lumber; Dwight of New York, the Republican whip, and Olmsted of Pennsylvania, a member of tho ways and men'ns committeo. "The president, liko all other good Republicans," said Speaker Cannon, "is gratified that tho bill has progressed so satisfactorily. I think we got through in pretty good time." Mr. Dwight said he thought the president pres-ident was pretty well plcasod with tho biil as passed by tho house. |
