Show LONG-DELAYED MESSAGE PROM EXPLORER COOK NEW YORK, Oct. 14. The first message mes-sage from Dr. Frederick E. Cook, the Arctic explorer, sinco ho fatarted for the polo from a point north of Etah, on February 26 last, has been received iu this city. It was brought hero by Uudolph Franko. who accompanied Br. Cook ou the early stage of his .jouvnoy, and who received it fiom the explorer by messengers whom ho seut back to the winter baso after he was well on his wa3' to the furthest north. Tho message was written on Mach 10 last, about three weeks after Dr. Cook had started on tlio last stage of his journey. It was dated "Polar Sea, North of Capo Hubbavd," and said that tip to that point everything hnd gone very well, although tue weather was extremely cold. "T am making a straight course for the pole," Dr. Cook wrote. "The boys arc doing well, and I have plenty ot dogs. 1 hope to sue-cood. sue-cood. At any rate, L sh-.i'l make a desperate effort. While T expect to got back hy the end of May, still T wish you to bo ready to go to Asponie, tho Island of North Star, where tho whaling whal-ing steamers come, by tho -1th of June, and if T am not back, to go homo with the whalers. I think, however, we will be back " Dr. Cook did not roach th-3 base before be-fore Franko started for home, and no word has yet been received from hi in. Members of the Peary club and the explorers have been considering for some time the advisability of sending an expedition in search of Dr. Cook.
