Tho expected contest in the third district dis-trict court between Dr. Gustave A. Gamble and Mrs. Dr. Mary B. Gamble, as to which was entitled to a divorce, was not pulled off according to programme. pro-gramme. To the contrary, Mr. Dr. Gamble not only consented that Mrs. Dr. Gamblo might secure a decree from him upon the ground of cruelty, but insisted in-sisted her in gaining tho coveted priao. The case was called before Judge j Armstrong at 3 o'clock Tuesday after-I after-I noon, the hour immediately preceding tho calling of tho case having been I taken lip by tho Gambles in an effort to adjudicato their property rights. When this effort had borne fruit, Airs. Gamblo went upon tho witness stand, told tho court that her husband's treatment treat-ment of her had greatly injured her health and caused her much unhappi-ness. unhappi-ness. Dr. Gainble then took his wife's place upon the stand and declared that ho would never livo with hor again. Upon this showing tho decree was granted. Had tho action been fonght out, as expected, it would havo been sensational. sensa-tional. Dr. Gamble, charged his wife with cruelty, aud she charged him similarly. simi-larly. She also charged him with associating as-sociating with a "femme seulc." Dr. Gamblo and his wife had divided their property some time ago, but tho division was not satisfactory to Mrs. Gamble, and she wanted tho court to 7)aBS upon tho division. She also wanted want-ed $5000 permanent alimony. In connection with the decree granted grant-ed by Judge Armstrong, Mrs. Gamble was allowed $450 as alimony, together with attorney's fees and costs. No mention was made as to the division of the other property, but this will appear ap-pear in tho findings of fact and conclusions con-clusions of law when they aro presented for tho signature of tho court. |
