ECHOES OF THE NOMINATION. The Democracy Is gradually trying to drag Itself out of tho quicksands into which is sank in St. Louis, but with rather indifferent success, Prosldent Cleveland congratulates Judge Parker on the honesty and courageousncss of his telegram; but he attributes to him in this, qualities possessed by Cleveland and not by Parker. The latter lat-ter saw in the convention a cowardice greater than his own timidity, and modo his play. It all shows, however, that so far from tho financial questions being no issue, It was the burning, tho overwhelming over-whelming Issued, among the Democrats at St. Louis. The echoes that come from the charge that Parker is the candidate of tho corporations, and especially the candidate of the Standard Oil concern, the most odious of all the trust monopolies, monop-olies, begin to reverbrale throughout the country. A Boston note In the Wall Street Journal places Judge Parker squarely as tho Standard Oil candi-dude, candi-dude, the head of that monopoly having been shown in tho sudden Hop of Pennsylvania's delegates to Parker; It reads as follows: "Financial people here are getting ready to extend their congratulations to 26 Broadway for the manner in which tiro Parker campaign, through Mr. Belmont, has been man-aped. man-aped. It is, however, regarded as a mistake to havo had the band of the Standard Oil so openly shown as in the delivery of Pennsylvania's GS votes through Mr. J. M. Guffey of the J. M. Guffoy Petroleum Co.. whose oil interests inter-ests both in Texas and Pennsylvania are so- closely associated with the Standard Oil Company." In view of this influence which backed Judge Parker's candidacy and forced his nomination, the feeble and uncertain attempt of tho Democratic platform to range tho Democracy against the monopolies and trusts, must fall dead; It is a ridiculous prop-psl(ion prop-psl(ion altogether. Guffey' s change was so sudden 'nnd unexpected that It was a sensation, and the explanation that it was forced by the Standard OH company is at onco a plausible one, and the only one that fits the case.
