Show DIAZ DECLARED ELECTED. His Formal Election as President of Mexico Takes Place. MEXICO CITY, July 11. Tho formal election for tho President of tho Republic took place today. Tho electors mot, transacted trans-acted their business and announced the election of Porforio Diaz as President and Ramon Corral as Vice-President. The election took place two weeks ago. Tho following day the President announced Iri a proclamation Inasmuch as there was no opposition to himself or Mr. Corral they were elected by tho people subject to tho board of electors, which met today. The electors wero named last weok by the various States and met today for tho purpos'o of announcing . to the Republic and to the world that for six yoars Porforio Por-forio Dltiz would be President and Ramon Ra-mon Corral Vice-President. The election was received with general satisfaction throughout the country. The election is taken to mean that Cor- ral will In tho near future be tho President, Presi-dent, for President Dlnr. is falling rapidly nnd is going to retire In- reality, though ho will nominally bo tho President. In doing this he will bo relieved o'f tho arduous ardu-ous duties of tho ofllce and will at tho same time satisfy tho people who lovo and honor him It Is believed that Gov. Miguel Ahumada of the State of JalUco, will be elected ns Mr. Corral's successor as MlnIntor of tho Interior. |
