Show DESTROYED THE WEEVIL. Guatemalan Ants Turned Loose in Texas Cotton Fields. WASHINGTON. July 11. The effectiveness effec-tiveness of the Guatemalan ants in checking the ravages of the boll weevil ln th'i cotton fields lias been tested, and Mr. Cook, expert of the Agricultural Agricul-tural dc-purlrnent, in a telegram to Secretary Sec-retary Wilson today, announced that the ants promptly dc-stroyed the- weevil, and the Texas ants as well. The telegram, tele-gram, which was the subject of great satisfaction to both Secretary Wilton and Dr. Galloway, chief of the bureau of planting Industry, Is dated Victory'. Tesc., and Is as follows: "After four weeks of captivity and on sugar diet, the Gautemalan ants promptly destroyed the Texas boll weevil; wee-vil; also the Texas red ants, the harmful harm-ful species which It was feared they might resemble." |
