"I ndvlsc you to keep out of tho law. Lawyers need not necessarily bo dishonest, but frequently fre-quently a great elasticity of conscience con-science Is required. Many of you aro too honest to be good lawyers." These assertions asser-tions today from William S. Pattco, dean of tho law school of Minnesota, created consternutlon among tho 1100 law Btudcnts who heard them. "I am speaking to you from tho experience expe-rience of years, ' Dr. Patteo continued. "I can only say: Keep out of thc law as long as you can. There will bo time enough to consider It when necessity compels you to think of it Is a means of livelihood. There aro many professions In which tho demands de-mands are not exnctlng, and In which tho lines between what we would wish to do and what wo are compelled to do are not so llnely drai." Dean Pattec was addressing tho law students after llnal examination. It Is considered probable his assertions, many of which wero sensational, will bo mado the subject of a session of tho faculty. Dean Pattee, it Is stated today, will bo asked to explain the purpose of his remarks. |
