Show UNIVERSITY STATEMENT I Manager Dickerman States His Side of the Controversy Tho following is a statement from Manager Dlckerman of the University track team After the basketball game In the morning Manager Kirkham I and I looked over the programme upon which all the names were printed of the contestants con-testants who were to compete In the tournament An objection was Immediately Im-mediately raised by Kirkham to Anderson An-derson and Mine of Cedar City who attend the branch normal school which Is a part of the University school Wednesday last I received word from Provo that the team there knew that I would secure a man or two from the Cedar school andlU no objection was made at that time I made arrangements with Anderson and Mime to come here and train for tho contest which resulted HO disastrously The Provo students refused to enter the contest unless I would throw out the two men 1 suggested that the matter be placed before a board of arbitration arbitra-tion for decision but the Provo students stu-dents would not agree to this The longer we talked the more excited every one became and a general riot took place The Provos retired from the campus and made their way to Agricultural park I again endeavored to arrange for the meet to take place but met with no success The B Y A wanted me to eliminate Anderson and Mine altogether and this I could not afford to do as we had no other men to put In their places but I did agree to enter them under protest I am sorry that the meet could not be held I and that so many people were disappointed disap-pointed I |
