They like to make this at any time of the year, for everyone loves it, especially with banana nut bread. Both recipes were handed down from the mothers. drained off after freezing and repacked until serving time. BANANA NUT BREAD I cup sugar 1 cup vegetable shortening 3 eggs, lightly beaten 4 medium mashed bananas 6 Tbsp. milk pinch of salt 2 level or scant tsp. soda 3 cups flour l cup nuts CREAM SUGAR and shortening shor-tening until fluffy, add slightly beaten eggs, bananas, mixing well. Add remaining ingredients ingre-dients and last the chopped nuts. Spoon into three medium sized loaf pans, greased, filling about two-thirds full and bake for one hour at 375 degrees, or until nicely browned. Mrs. Farris is a former second grade teacher. She mis sed teaching school so started the Farris Pre-School. She and her students often "cook" during school hours making muffins, cranberry and banana bread, pizza, cookies and soup. They always make the ice cream for the children's birthdays. SHE SPENDS much of the summer camping with her family and sews as well as other creative interests. Mrs. Farris said. "After three boys in the family, it is a thrill to have a girl to dress up, even though Adrienne is a'tom-boy." a'tom-boy." She hopes to return to teaching when all her children are in school. Her children are Jason 10, Bryan 8, Brett J and Adrienne 3. Sondra continued, "Adienne should grow up to be a great cook, as she doesn't mind a mess at all." By KATHRYN JENNINGS 451-2027 Sondra Farris and her daughter Adrienne have made a freezer of ice cream. The deck is a good place to make it on good days. Even if the weather is a bit cool, this task is good to get out of the kitchen when preparations are going along for a meal. HOMEMADE ice cream is always a favorite of this family and many others, at any season sea-son of the year. Often fruits are added when the ice cream is almost frozen, to add a good variety of flavors. Sondra also shares a recipe for banana nut bread which is a ' favorite of her mother-in-law who has handed it down to the children. This bread is good served with ice cream too. Try it for serving with this dessert or at a luncheon, or really for an meal. THE ICE cream is always served at family gatherings in her home and in her mother-in-law's home. It is inexpensive to make, yet a favorite family dessert. HOMEMADE ICE CREAM 1 tall can, 13 oz. evaporated milk 4 eggs, well beaten 2 Tbsp. vanilla 2 cups sugar whole milk MIX WELL THE beaten eggs, sugar, vanilla and canned milk and pour into a four quart freezer. Fill the freezer can with the whole milk, about V full. Use five parts of ice to one part of salt and freeze in electric elec-tric freezer or hand turned freezer. Drain water and repack re-pack in ice and salt until ready to serve. A VARIATION of flavors may be used by adding mashed fruit, when in season use fresh fruit or at any season use bananas bana-nas or frozen berries of any kind or pineapple. SOMETIMES the freezer is just set in the sink to freeze if there is not other cooking going on. then the water can be |
