Show Region Four Cross Country Slated Oct. 21 By DAVE WIGHAM SALT LAKE CITY The top cross country runners run-ners from Region Four will converge on Sugarhouse Park Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. to decide their champions for this year. BOTH THE girls and the boys will participate in the race but they will run separately. As far as favorites go there is some speculation among the coaches but there really isn't a clear cut favorite in either race. ALAN PARKER of Viewmont is rated the top male runner, although. John Segmiller of East will give him a battle. Alan is undefeated in dual meets this season. According to the coaches, East. Highland and Viewmont all have shots at the boy's title. Viewmont Coach Lynn Dubois is a little concerned about his club entering the region meet though, "junior Brian Fuller injured his back a couple of weeks ago and right now he's only about 75 percent healthy. He'll be the key for us. Reese Kidman and Mike Allen are two strong sophomores for us and they could surprise sur-prise some folks." THE GIRLS race is even more of a mystery, although, the top two spots are almost assured. Carolyn Smith and Becky Bjornn of Bountiful are the two top girls in the region and state but as far as team standings go Davis has a good shot at it. Noted one coach, "they have a good runner in ninth grader Cindy Sorenson plus I understand they have a couple of volleyball players that are good that we haven't seen." Spectators are welcome and encouraged. Full re-sults re-sults and pictures will be in next weeks Clipper. |
