Show ft (i) u y ua JAPANESE STUDENTS These four Japanese students are living with Farmington families while they attend classes at Davis High School. They w ill return for the Christmas vacation after attending attend-ing school in other states. They are, I to r, Keiko Hoshi-jima, Hoshi-jima, Saori Usui, Emi Osaki and Osamu Urano. Four Japanese students are living with Farmington families fami-lies and attending Davis High School for the year. EMI OSAKI, a tenth grader, lives with the John and Miriam Massey family. Keiko Hoshijima is in the 1 1th grade and lives with the Mario and Sherry Wilcox family. Saori Usui, a senior, lives with the Anne Nelson family. Osamu Osa-mu Urano, a 12th grader, is with the family of Dave and Camille Butler. The students were placed through the U.S.A. Information Informa-tion Center, Inc. with offices in Los Angeles, Calif., Tokyo, Japan. They have been placing students for six years, mostly in California. They now send students to Arizona and Utah. THE STUDENT'S family pays their transportation to the states after the Information Center has made the arrangements. arrange-ments. There were students here during the summer to learn the customs and English, though, they have learned the basic English at their Japanese schools. Jim Stettler, an English En-glish teacher living in Fruit Heights, has taught the group during the summer. STUDENTS WHO attend school in other states will return re-turn to Utah to spend the Christmas holidays with their host families with whom they have developed close ties. There are three alternatives for paying the expense of the Japanese students. First, the student's family pays all expenses; ex-penses; second, the Japanese parents pay part of the expenses ex-penses and the student works for the family here for part of the expense; third, the students stu-dents work for his entire expenses ex-penses while living here. |
