WILL TEJjT THE CEMENT Second BurnIng of the Utah Portland Port-land Cement Company Completed eI The Utah Portland Cement company has just complied the burning of its second and best Jlln of its product and yesterday madE Cor < nal request upon the city engineer to select samples of the cement and subject them to the severest tests at his command for the purpose of determining whether or no the article is marketable and worthy to be used in the construction of the gravity sewer Engineer Young will send a man down to the plant of the company this morning with instructions instruc-tions to select the necessary number of samples and the tests will then be made I will require seven days to determine the strength of the cement The promoters of the enterprise are confident that the test will be perfectly satisfactory to the engineer for they have already made a number of severe experiments favorably all of which ruled Since the fir ° s were blown out at the conclusion ef the last burning the company com-pany has been making some changes necessary in returning to the old method of burning with coal coke being be-ing too expensive The latter fuel was only adopted in order that the kiln might be thoroughly dried I is too expensive to burn regularly The company com-pany now has on hand some 500 barrels of cement and orders for many times that number to be filled when the quality of the product of the plant can be guaranteed
