Show V -Although Vlw Library j -et prima my cuss alternatives lor new facilities during its regular Tuesday board meeting, it decided to see matters right at the present Farmington headquarters first, THAT building's first floor was formerly shared on a 50-50 basis with the Davis County School District which utilized space for its book processing. The district changed to a state library commission system last year and has since discontinued use of the facility. But legally it still has rights to one-half. And Supt. Bernell Wrigley told the board that the district has need for the lost space, either there or somewhere else, or should get compensation. compensa-tion. "We'll have to move back in and use one-half or get payment and make other arrangements." A SCHOOL-district financed appraisal conducted about a year ago placed value of the district's portion at $150,000. Total value of the building was set at $400,589. The 18,000 square foot facility was built in 1965 for $160,000 with land owned and retained by the county. The library utilizes the entire en-tire main level and a small portion of the basement for the bookmobile. County offices of-fices for civil defense, senior citizens and the nutrition program take up most of the remaining space. "WE FEEL WE owe the school board their share," said County Commissioner Glen Flint. "We're not quite in agreement on the assessor's asses-sor's figure but we have a little lit-tle money left that could pay off some of it (to the school board). It would probably take two-three years to pay off." Commission Chairman C. E. "Bill" Moss told the board that he thought $30, 000-$40, 000 excess was in the present year's library budget that could be used as initial payment. While the county holds title to the building, funds would have to come from the library budget, Commissioner Flint said. AGREEING that something should be done as quickly as possible, the board accepted a motion from Evan Whitesides recommending the county commission proceed in either beginning payment to the school board or retain its own appraiser and work out a compromise between the two appraisals. The motion also said clarification is necessary on basement use. In relation to that action, the board agreed to forestall any plans of remodeling the east entrance to the facility, estimated to cost more than $10,000. tb |
