Show BAND HONORS The Woods Cross High School Marching Band, under the capable direction of Steve Richins, has scored three outstanding successes in the past two weeks, especially significant due to only having organized this past June. ON SATURDAY Sept. 29, they competed in BYU Band Day at Provo. Twelve bands from all over Utah participated, par-ticipated, and the new Woods Cross band placed fourth in competition, with drum major Russell Newbold being selected as outstanding drum major from all the band groups. On Saturday, Oct. 7, they drove to Pocatello, Idaho, to the Eastern Idaho Marching Band Competition in the mini-dome. They placed third in competition, one point out of second place, and three points out of first. The crowd gave them a standing ovation as they marched forward in the finale. ON WEDNESDAY evening, Oct. 11 at the U of U Band competition, they were awarded the beautiful second place trophy in the large school category. Fourteen schools participated in this competition. The Woods Cross band proudly wears brand new uniforms of bright blue trimmed in red and white, with tall matching blue hats. The drum major in striking stately white, the flag and rifle corps in red and white, and the color guard and banner carriers in blue, make . a striking and patriotic picture pic-ture on the field during competition, as they display their school colors. SPECIAL THANKS and recognition go to Nancy Richins and Earlene Blaser for their talent and dedicated work with the flag and rifle corps. The final competition of the season will be the Davis Cup Invitational, next Wednesday evening, Oct. 18 at the U of U stadium.
