Show Festival Of Trees Again A Success The recent Festival of Trees in the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City was an outstanding display of Christmas trees, beautifully decorated and sold for the benefit of the Primary Children's Hospital. THERE WAS an unusual display called "Christmas Holiday" which was sponsored spon-sored by Lagoon Corporation of Farmington, and built under the direction of Glenna Leavitt of FarminRton. She was asked to enter a display, after having assisted with one in 197a After considering and checking into putting together a mini-ski lift, she decided on this type of display which required about six weeks to assemble. SHE CHECKED with the engineering department at the University of Utah for instructions in-structions to build a mini ski lift. She was determined to make a lovely display and spent many hours in trial and error with various pieces of equipment and with a number of friends assisting. i Just one hour before open- j ing night at the Salt Palace, j the display was ready for the j public and it was one of the t most outstanding at the show. j THE MOTORIZED ski lift carried six dolls, dressed in specially designed sports wear. There were 41 dolls in the display, some in the j handmade ski lodge at the base of the lift. There were other dolls wearing skis, touring on the slopes of similated snow and ice on the ski slopes. At the top of the slopes was a Christmas tree decorated with tiny gold lights. The beautiful "Christmas Holiday" exhibit was sold for $850. ASSISTING IN building the display with the trial and error method were Erma Lowry, Layton; Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Leavitt, Drucilla Taylor and Wesley Williams, all Farmington. Designing and making the hand knit sports clothing for the 41 dolls, were Dorothy Hansen, Margaret Hadden and Ruth Van Fleet, Farmington; Far-mington; Mrs. George Fel-ton, Fel-ton, Hyrum and Rosabell Stark of Layton. kj |
